Day Light
I keep my newly completed paintings in my living room. It is the brightest room in the house because it receives the most sunlight. Every time I walk through the living room I look at the paintings and decide if they need any changes. This can last a few days, or up to a few weeks.
My husband is a very patient and understanding man. The living can be in much disarray when I am highly productive. It is the life of an artist.

Jack's Painting
My grandson Jack (6 years old) was visiting a few weeks ago and wanted to paint in my studio. He had been asking for quite some time, and this occasion seemed like a great opportunity to introduce him to the painting process. This is the result of his efforts. He did get a bit frustrated initially, but with persistence he completed his 5x7 painting and was very proud of it.
Great job Jack!
Painting Process
These are images of how I work on a painting... I am a somewhat messy painter, that is my space is messy. I take a few hours once in a while and thoroughly clean my small studio, but most of the time I prefer to spend all of my available time painting, researching, doodling for paintings, and preparing my surfaces for paintings. I also spend quite a bit of time preparing my prints and cards which I sell online, and in my summer gallery in Temagami, Ontario (Northland Traders).
I have come to realize over the last several years that if you want to improve yourself and your work you have to put your all into it, you cannot simply dabble into something and hope that it will turn out. You get out of it what you put into it.
A few things have fallen on the wayside but at some point you have to face the realities of life and decide what it is that you want out of it. I am certainly not superwoman (much to my dismay) and must accept that I can only do so much. I have decided that it is painting.
I a semi retired meaning that I work 8 months out of the year, and then off for four months. My husband and I operate a seasonal business, which allows us a very interesting lifestyle. I try to paint most of the year, but my most productive time is January to April, then I paint semi-regularly from May to October, and then almost none November and December.

Painted while vacationing in Ojochal, Costa Rica in March, 2015.
Costa Rica
My husband and I spent close to two weeks in Ojochal, Costa Rica. The view from our rental was beautiful. I had brought very basic supplies of paints, brushes and paper as we were travelling light. I was taken aback by how the acrylic paints reacted to the different environment found in a very hot climate. It took me several days to adjust to the paints. Because of the fluidity of the acrylics I realized that I had brought the wrong brushes and paper. I was persistent and able to produce seven paintings of the mountains. I will know better next time I travel to a hot climate.
